The Data Science Services branch within CSSM has considerable expertise and experience with data-based projects, particularly in conducting land surveys. Since 1956, CSSM has cooperated with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to develop survey methods and provide statistical and operational support for the National Resources Inventory (NRI), a longitudinal survey of agricultural and other natural resources on U.S. nonfederal lands. Results from these surveys are used extensively in the construction of Farm Bills in the U.S. In addition to its focus on serving the NRI and with its strong statistical, software and geographic information system (GIS) capabilities, DSS offers data services that range from collecting and managing to interpreting and analyzing data in order to help its diverse customers make informed decisions.
