Iowa Nitrogen Initiative

photo of a fieldThe Iowa Nitrogen Initiative is a project focused on providing Iowans with best practices for nitrogen fertilizer application to optimize profit and crop production. The project works with farmers and agricultural service providers to run annual nitrogen rate trials on farms around Iowa. Researchers at Iowa State University utilize super-computing and quantitative modeling to predict the best methods for nitrogen fertilizer rates. The project takes into account various varibles including crop systems, soil types, crop genetics, and weather.

CSSM is developing the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative Database to centralize collected data and assist researchers in understanding optimal nitrogen rates. A secure web application will provide streamlined data access and management to enhance research efficiency and ensure data security.
